What I'm Using: Eye Primer

I would never wear foundation without a primer, so it stands to reason I wouldn't wear eye shadow without a primer! One of my all time favorites is Too Faced's Eye Primer in Candlelight

They call it "shadow insurance" for a reason, because it really keeps your shadow where you put it!!! ($19 at Ulta)

My favorite part about this primer, is the golden tint that it has. This tint:

- Brightens the eye area
- Makes shadow pigments attach better
- Makes shadow colors appear bolder
- Allows you to use LESS eyeshadow (when you're applying a $75 Chanel Quad, you're happy to save!)
- Evens skin tone
- Gets rid of redness
- Smooths the area for better shadow application

Look at this before and after:

notice how much better the shadow looks with a primer to lock it in place and bring the pigments (read: color) out!

There are three products in the 'shadow insurance' line from Too Faced and I've used them all:

If you have an eye area that is especially prone to redness, check out their primer in 'lemon drop' which has a yellow hue that gets rid of redness:

Its a beauty bag staple that you can't pass up for under $20. It will last you 10-12 months even with daily application. (you only need a tiny bead-size amount for each eye!)

Mascara FAIL: Tried and Hated

Over the last three months, here are some of the mascaras I 'sampled' and did NOT like for the following reasons. I will say, however, that my bestie has informed me that she loves the Buxom lashes mascara, so I should mention that this is just my opinion based on a week's use

Benefit's "They're REAL!"

-Terrible to remove, even with a tough makeup remover, this stuff clumped up and had to be scraped off
-VERY black pigment, which I like, but might be too harsh on others

Josie Maran's Argon Infused Natural Mascara

- Terrible brush
- Color ran under my eyes within hours

Stila's "Stay All Day"

- Terrible application, you feel like you need 10 coats
- Awful brush
- Product was drying

Tarte's Lash Hugger Natural Mascara

- Didn't like the brush
- Application was too 'thin' and didn't build length or volume

Bare Essentuals Buxom Lashes (with expandable brush)

LOVE the concept, didn't like the formula
- Clumpy
- Didn't notice much a difference when you change the brush

Sephora's Lash Plumper

- Brush was too thick
- Clumpy

Tune in Tomorrow at 10am!

Don't forget to watch my segment on channel 9 on Wednesday at 10am!

What I'm Using: Eyeliner

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I am completely obsessed with EYEKO's liquid liner:

the line it gives is perfect and because the pen is made to keep the felt tip very hydrated (aka: soaked with the liquid liner pigment) you hardly have to put any effort in to getting a great line!

I've been wearing the Olive Green shade on weekends in the form of a super thick cat eye

at $15 (Sephora and Birchbox) you can stock up, because they last forever! Its worth paying for this product because the tip never goes dry, even if you have a lot of eyeshadow on.

Its a MUST have in my beauty bag!

Inspiration: Side Waves

Apparently everyone got the memo that side waves is THE hair style of the moment! Check out these looks from Sunday's SAG Awards and all the 'aide waves' glory! I will SO be doing this look!

Inspiration: Dita Von Teese

Every time I see the incredible Dita Von Teese, I am mesmerized by her beauty and this persona that she seems to never stray from. The classic red lip and black eyeliner transform her to this 50s pinup with a modern edge. I am just in awe. Enjoy...

What I'm Using: Primer

I keep going back for it over and over again....even though I often think that there can be no way I love this primer so much! BUT I DO!

It's Victoria's Secret FX Primer with SPF 20
Victoria's Secret VS PRO Airbrush FX Perfecting Primer SPF 20
(you can buy for $15 at www.victoriassecret.com or at the VS locations with a beauty section (for the locals: Carousel VS has it)

Nothing works for me quite like this amazing oil free primer that glides on and keeps my makeup put ALL day! Plus I love the little extra SPF protection!

I've tried over 20 primers, and I keep making my way back to this one. I use it on my makeup clients all the time and it never irritates their skin!

Pick some up and give it a try!

(PS- pass on the bronze and highlighter version they have, they aren't nearly as good)

What I'm Using: Mascara

I spent over a year hunting for a new mascara when my fav Chanel one was discontinued. I finally ended up with a deluxe sample of an Estee Lauder (who wouldn't thought?) mascara that was INCREDIBLE! BUT - would the full size live up to the hype?!?

It sure did, and I'm on my third purchased tube and I love it so much!

It's Estee Lauder's Sumptuous Bold Volume Mascara (I wear black, but I like the brown too!)

The brush grabs all my lashes and the application is smooth and adds tons of length and volume, without making my lashes look clumpy

My favorite thing about it, is that although it isn't waterproof, you'd probably need to jump in a pool before it would run! Sadly, I learned this at a funeral, where after 40+ minutes of crying it hadn't even budged!

And every night it washes right off with a gentle cleanser with no raccoon eye left behind!

At $22 (Estee Lauder counters in major department stores) its not a cheap buy, but you won't be disappointed! Its a great product!

Best Anti-Acne Moisturizer

I've officially fallen in love with Vichy's Normaderm Anti-Acne Moisturizer!
Normaderm Daily Anti-Acne Hydrating Lotion - Moisturizers

This daily hydrating lotion is a cool, light-weight....almost gel-like formula that really does improve acne! I've been fighting with acne in my 30s like I've never experienced in my life, and every moisturizer was making me super dry or greasy!

What's even better? Its only $23.50!
http://www.vichyusa.com/_us/_en/face-care/moisturizers/Normaderm-Daily-anti-acne-hydrating-lotion.htm

I've been buying mine at Ulta, and I also just picked up the cleanser from the same line:
Normaderm Daily Gentle Cream Cleanser - Cleansers + Toners
and so far (2 days) its been very gentle and my skin isn't dry at all, and my acne is still gone!

I highly recommend this line to help with acne-prone skin, especially because its not too harsh and will work well with other products.

Get inspired for Spring, courtesy of Chanel

On last week's runways in Paris, it was ALL about Spring at the Chanel show! Shades of blush pink combined with sharp blunt haircuts were all over the place! I am LOVING the double C logo under the eye, its so label-pushing that it works!

Oh Karl (as in Lagerfeld, as in the God of all things fashion) how do you continue to blow our minds and keep Chanel modern and relevant yet re-introduce the classic tweeds, black and white and A-line and we STILL WANT IT!

Check out the makeup that Chanel says we will be dying over some April!

Makeup artists were creating these pink looks with this palette (to be released soon for Resort, aka: Pre-Spring)

Check out this bathing suit and purse, its amazing!

I am just IN LOVE with the whole theme and the looks! I wish I could order it all for my upcoming beach vacation!

Valentine's Themed Makeup!

Valentine's Day is my FAV Holiday! Here is a sneak peek of my up and coming seven day Valentine's countdown I will start on February 7th on my blog!

This week's obsession: White Hot Nails!

I am totally inspired by white nails, especially with the black and white trend being so huge right now! Here is what I'm using for inspiration this week:

Gwen's killer black stripe menswear suit with white nails:

Fun black and white tribal-like patterns:

White 'button-up" nails:

Plain 'ole white is really not so plain....

Mini-tuxedos (Zooey Dechanel's nails from last year's Oscars!)

AND...the scalloped edge french mani:
