Splurge vs Steal: Beach Hair Spray

For creating piecy texture

This week's splurge vs. steal is about Beach Wave Spray

or for enhancing natural curl

I'm comparing the SPLURGE: Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray ($25 at Sephora)

- Great Scent
- Nice texture
- Non greasy
- Non-damaging (no salt in these formulas)
- Non drying
- Allowed for some control

- Beach wave didn't stand up well in the high humidity

and the STEAL: Big Sexy Hair's Soy Renewal Beach Spray ($12)
This product promises to actual restore shine and actually make hair healthier with use

- Made hair shiny
- Gave nice texture

- Sprayer was too concentrated
- Hair was over hydrated so it wasn't piecy enough
- Weighed hair down a bit

The winner is:  The SPLURGE

If you're gonna rock this summer style a lot, but the product that gives you more control and less weight, especially if your hair is longer!

CUTICLE Nail Art?

What?  Did I say that right?

Just when you were totally o-v-e-r nail art, the beauty industry comes up with something crazy to take its place: cuticle art. Get the details here: http://birch.ly/13HFM0p Anyone want to take bets for how long this fashionable fad will last?

Yes.I.Did.

Do you love or hate it?  Wait, do you even get it?

Yeah, it's nail art 2.0 girlfriends!  The scoop I've managed to get, courtesy of Birchbox.com is that they are temporary tattoo's from "Rad Nails"

(sorry I had to make that so big, but I wanted you to see it!)

This is my first exposure to:

But so far I like what I'm seeing and I'm ordering!

These apply on nails and cuticles with water and make for some super futuristic nail art!

What do you think?

Some yellow I am NOT a fan of

Unless you've lived under a rock for 40 years, you probably recognize the Clinique 'yellow' moisturizer (it actually has a name: Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion - which is ironic because nothing has been different about it in like, 100 years!)

To celebrate the relaunch of the moisturizer (something they do every few years) Clinique decided to release a signature nail shade in the exact color of the 'famous' lotion:

Meet Yellow Genius, our new nail enamel shade—inspired by our famous moisturizer! Available online now for a limited time. http://bit.ly/132oTOp

And I am going to go on record and say that I am NOT a fan.  Not only is it lackluster - but the shade is too pale for most skin tones.  I mean hey, if you're gonna do yellow - go for brights!

The advantage is that is IS free from chemicals - but sadly that means it chips pretty easily.

Verdict: Skip it!

Yellow Eyeshadow - How to Rock It!

Recently, some yellow shadow in the store caught my eye, but I was reluctant to purchase it because I have always associated it with bold (not work appropriate) looks

But I picked it up anyway and decided to research how to work this bold hue into my looks - and I've got some ideas to share with you!!!

Wear it alone

by sticking with a swipe of neon or sunny yellow - you still maintain a simpleness to the look.  Go for a waterproof liner to create this look for the beach with a bright bikini!

Blend it with neutrals

These soft neutrals work with the yellow because they aren't competing for notice.  Finishing with the black liquid liner on the top only added definition

When applying the shadow, use a small flat shadow brush (or even a small concealer brush) so you can 'pat' and place shadow precisely where you want it (rather then using a fluffy brush and dusting on the color"

A dusting at the top and bottom, complimented by neutral tones really works!
Pair it with an opposite color

if you're ready to take yellow to the next level. pair it up with another bold hue that's outside of yellow's color family, like plum or turquoise

I love it with electric violet!

notice how the cobalt blue really sets off the yellow?!

What to use?

For easier blending and a softer tone, try a creamy shadow like
NYX Single Shadow $4.50 at Ulta

For the ultimate pigment concentration of true yellow, go for Sugarpill Cosmetic's 'Buttercupcake' shadow ($12 at http://www.beautylish.com/s/sugarpill-cosmetics-pressed-eyeshadow-buttercupcake?gclid=CNaPhdaTxLgCFYKi4AodJVQAIQ )

For a gel liner that will stay put, try Inglot's Gel Liner (www.inglot.com)

You should give the yellow shadow trend a try!  I'm loving it!
